The Nyiragongo package is a stand alone Nyiragongo trek. Guests will arrive in Goma, overnight on the volcano and return to Goma the following morning. Trekkers should be at the Grande Barriere border crossing by 06:30 am and check-in with Virunga tourism office by 8:00 am on the morning of the scheduled trek.
The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. During
check-in, guests will be provided with a volcano trek permit that must be presented before climbing.
Once check-in is complete, guests will be transported to Kibati Ranger Post, starting point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. The ascent up the volcano starts around 10:00 am with most climbing groups reaching the summit by 5:00 pm.
Hikers will spend the night on the crater and start the descent back to Kibati around 6:00am the following morning.
Once at the bottom, guests will be taken back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere.

The Mikeno Mist package includes a three night stay in Virunga: two nights in Kibumba Tented Camp with a gorilla trek and one night stay on Nyiragongo volcano.

Guests will receive gorilla and volcano trek permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once

Day 2: After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek.
Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching.
Day 3: After breakfast in Kibumba, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15 am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, guests will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit.
Day 4: In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere.

After spending the allotted hour with the gorillas, trekkers will return to Bukima camp and then will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge where the remainder of the day can be spent relaxing on the lodge terrace or visiting the gorilla
orphans at the Senkwekwe Center.
Day 3: After breakfast at Mikeno Lodge, guest will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. Upon return, a quick lunch will be served at Bukima and when all gorilla trekkers have returned, guests will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge. On arrival to Mikeno, guests have the afternoon at leisure, free to explore the Park HQ or cosy up with a nice book by the fire.
Day 4: This is a day to relax, explore and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Mikeno Lodge.

On arrival to Mikeno Lodge, guests have the afternoon at leisure, free to relax on the lodge terrace or visit the gorilla orphans at the Senkwekwe Center.
Day 4: At 6:00 am, guests will head out for a chimpanzee trek. A trek with these animals is a unique experience that allows visitors to join our team as they study and habituate the family of chimpanzees found in the Mahura Forest surrounding Rumangabo.
Returning for a late breakfast, guests will be invited to spend the rest of the day exploring the Park headquarters or just relaxing with a book on the terrace of Mikeno Lodge.
Day 5: After breakfast, guest will be transported back to the Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere border post.
