Lake Bunyonyi has more than 200 species of birds that can be spotted in the lake. Lake Bunyonyi's famous bird species include egrets, Velliant cuckoos, herons, slender-billed baglafetch, weaverbirds, and grey crowned cranes, among many others.

The dry seasons (from December to February and June to September) are the best times to visit Lake Bunyonyi. The weather is usually sunny and less rainy throughout these months, which makes it the perfect season for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, nature walks, and bird viewing.
