 Gorilla tracking in the Buhoma gorilla sector takes tourists to see one of the habituated gorilla families. The Mubare group is the oldest mountain gorilla family in the Buhoma sector that is open to tracking. The three remaining gorilla families include the Katwe gorilla family, the Rushegura gorilla family, and the Habinyanja gorilla family.

Buhoma mountain gorilla families allow the Uganda Wildlife Authority to issue 32 gorilla permits for tourists; each mountain gorilla permit costs $800 for non-resident tourists, $700 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African Community citizens. Mountain gorilla trekking requires tourists to have a good camera without a flashlight, waterproof hiking boots, long-sleeved shirts, a rain jacket, gardening gloves, and insect repellent.

Buhoma nature walks

Forest walks give tourists another way to explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and discover most of the hidden gems, such as hiking in any of the Buhoma trekking trails. The Buhoma's famous trekking trails include the Rushura trail, Buhoma village tourist walk, Munyanga river trail, waterfall trail, and Muzubirjiro river trail. Nature walks in Buhoma allow tourists to spot many bird species, butterflies, primates, and various tree species.

The Buhoma region is blessed with magnificent birdwatching trails such as Buhoma Waterfall, Mubwindi Swamp of Nkuringo, and the Bamboo Zone. Batwa trail experience in Buhoma

The Batwa experience in the Buhoma sector is a remarkable opportunity for tourists to have a close interaction with Uganda’s Batwa pygmies, to learn about the Batwa’s old way of life, such as their ancient techniques for fruit gathering and hunting, learn about their dances and music performances, and listen to interesting stories.

Biking in the Buhoma sector

Biking or cycling in the Buhoma sector allows tourists to participate in Ride 4 a Woman, which is locally managed and organized by Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

The best time to go to the Buhoma gorilla sector falls during the dry season, although it is possible to arrange a gorilla tour to the Buhoma sector at any time or any month of the year. The dry season in Buhoma starts from June to September, and or travel from December to February.
