Which activities can I do near Mahogany Springs?
Trek mountain gorillas in Buhoma sector
Trek gorillas in the most famous sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma, the first sector to be established in Bwindi. Gorilla trekking begins at 7am with a morning briefing about the dos and don'ts during mountain gorilla trekking in an African jungle. Then tourists are distributed to different gorilla families. Each group is led by a park ranger guide from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Bird-watching
Uganda offers over 1,000 bird species, 350 of which can be seen in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, including the 23 species that are endemic to the Albertine Rift. A keen birder can witness more than 100 species in a single day, making it one of Uganda’s top birding destinations.
Bird species that can be found include the African Green Broadbill, white-tailed blue flycatcher, Grauer's Rush Warbler, Chaplin’s Flycatcher, and Dusky Crimson-wing.

This community tour gives travelers a chance to learn more about the local history, culture, and food of the Buhoma sector of Bwindi. The tour takes about two hours. You will be guided within the community, where travelers meet a local healer, learn how they make alcohol from bananas using banana leaves, and interact with the locals.

Take in the sights and sounds of Bwindi on a nature walk that will take you straight to the beautiful nearby waterfall. During your nature walk, you can easily spot primate species, bird species, many tree species, and butterflies.
When can I trek mountain gorillas in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable?
The best time to go gorilla trekking in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi is in the long dry season that happens between June and September and during the short dry season from December to February. Because Uganda’s climate is tropical, you should expect some showers even in the dry season.
