Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge's main house is perched on top of a hill. Ichumbi Restaurant serves delectable meals prepared with fresh local ingredients. Ichumbi Bar is always fully stocked, offering a range of soft and hard drinks. 

Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge has a total of nine self-contained cottages that are clean and comfortable and create a unique moment of relaxation for different visitors. Ichumbi gorilla cottages are located near trees and in a flower garden and offer accommodation in a peaceful setting.

Gorilla habituation experience 

Gorilla habituation experience allows tourists to spend four hours with gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, through Uganda Wildlife Authority, introduced a mountain gorilla habituation experience for tourists who are interested in spending more time with mountain gorillas on 1st January 2014. Tourists interested in the habituation experience pay $1500 per person per gorilla habituation experience. Gorilla habituation only takes place in the Rushaga sector.

Gorilla tracking in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable 

Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge is situated a stone's throw away from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the home of Uganda’s mountain gorillas. Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge is only 10 minutes from the Rushaga sector briefing point inside the park. At Rushaga sector, you have an opportunity to see mountain gorillas from 7 gorilla groups. Rushaga gorilla families include Nshongi gorilla family, Bweza gorilla family, Busingye gorilla family, Mishaya gorilla family, Kahungye gorilla family, newly habituated Bikingi, and Bushaho families. It is also possible to drive for an hour and trek mountain gorillas from the Nkuringo sector.

Tourists can also decide to trek a mountain gorilla family in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which is located just a 2-hour’ drive from Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge.

Bird watching in the Rushaga sector

Birding lovers always find Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge a great starting point to start their birdwatching session due to lots of forest birds and a high number of birds that are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest offers over 350 bird species. Day birdwatching excursions can be done in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and near Lake Mulehe/Chahafi.

Community walk

Community walk takes you either to the Batwa community, agro-tourism, three-horned chameleon tracking, bat tracking, or preparing local foods with the community.

Nature walk

The Rushaga nature walk takes travelers to the waterfalls in Bwindi forest with a chance to experience real forest life and birds. Pygmy (Batwa) cultural trails around the park and golden monkey walk experiences can be organized for you, so don’t miss out. Rushaga sector has recorded a number of bird species and the beautiful waterfalls.

The best time to explore Uganda and see mountain gorillas is within June, July, August, September, December, and February. The lush, evergreen forests offer an ideal canvas for mountain gorilla trekking. During these months, the Bwindi impenetrable region experiences a dry season, thus no slippery trails that improve the hiking conditions.
