Ngamba Island protects 49 orphaned chimpanzees that were rescued from bushmen and illegal pets. Chimpanzees living at the Ngamba chimpanzee sanctuary are safe to encounter in a semi-natural environment. Ngamba Island sits on 95 acres of natural forest where these chimpanzees forage and roam daily. Chimpanzees at Ngamba Island have the option of staying in the forest at night or coming back where they built nests and getting an evening meal.
