Mengo Palace

Mengo Palace is also commonly known as Lubiri and Kabaka’s Palace, Mengo Palace, which is the historic residence of the Buganda King (Kabaka). The Kasubi Tombs are a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was constructed out of traditional organic materials. The expansive hut is a former royal burial ground for the four Buganda kings (Kabakas) and the members of the royal family. Kasubi tombs are an example of traditional architecture that gives travelers an opportunity to learn more about the Buganda Kingdom.

Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine

The Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine Namugongo is among the largest Christian pilgrimage destinations in Africa. That is dedicated to the 43 martyrs who were murdered under the orders of the former Kabaka Mwanga II between 1885 and 1887.

On June 3, every year, Uganda celebrates Martyrs’ Day, a national public holiday commemorating the 23 Anglican martyrs and 22 Catholics who were killed during that time. If you are in Kampala within 3rd June, you are likely to spot thousands of pilgrimages to Namugongo Martyr’s shrine.

Ndere Cultural Centre

Ndere Cultural Centre showcases the best dance troupe in Uganda! The dance troupe hosts cultural dances and music from different tribes across Uganda. Besides the music and dancing, Ndere Cultural Center also presents a sprinkle of some comedy as well as a delicious dinner buffet and barbeque for attendees. The best time to visit Kampala is in the short dry months of mid-December to February and again in the long dry months of June to September.
