Murchison Falls National Park historic site can only be accessed from the South Bank, and it takes about a 15-20-minute drive from Sambiya River Lodge. Murchison Falls National Park protects lions, elephants, Cape buffalo, Uganda kob, warthogs, bushbucks, hyenas, and waterbucks, as well as many bird species. The dramatic world’s waterfalls plunge 45 meters and pass through a narrow 6-meter stream. 

Travelers will understand why the Falls were traditionally called "PAJOO, which means the home of the spirits. Once you are there, that is when you will understand why Winston Churchill walked from Masindi town to view the Falls in 1907, after completing three good days of his hike in a beekeeper’s veil and gloves that helped protect him from tsetse flies! It is one of the reasons that made him declare Uganda “the Pearl of Africa.

Murchison Falls National Park has many boats providing cruises up and down the Nile. One boat trip offered starts from Parra, which is approximately a 25-minute drive from Sambiya River Lodge, depending on the condition of the road traveling up the Nile and to the base of the renowned Falls.

The Uganda Wildlife Boats usually offer two sessions that start at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Murchison Falls National Park offers an abundance of hippos, elephants, crocodiles, Cape buffalo, giraffes, and numerous bird species. Travelers can also spot the rare shoebill stork on a lucky day.

Natural walks can be done either early in the morning or later in the afternoon; all the walks are cooler and more comfortable. Tourists can encounter, feel, and see the vastness of Africa just like the early explorers did. You can spot lions, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, baboons, colobus monkeys, and endless bird species.
