The African golden cats have a variety of fur colors ranging from grayish brown to dark slaty, chestnut, or reddish-brown; some are spotted; others have faded tan to black spots on the belly and inner legs.

African Golden Cats in the western part of their range have heavier spotting than African Golden Cats in the eastern region. There are mostly two-color morphs: a red cat and a gray cat.

The African Golden Cats love the moist equatorial forest, although they also penetrate the savanna regions along riverine rain forests and occur in montane forest and alpine moorland in the eastern range. Apart from Semuliki National Park, African Golden Cat tourism activities are available in all national parks in western Uganda.

The African golden cat’s existence in Uganda is threatened because of deforestation and bushmeat hunting. African golden cat was recently assessed by The IUCN Red List, considered among the threatened Species in 2014 and Vulnerable group under criteria A2c+3c.

The African Golden Cat are always available mainly in moist equatorial tropical forests. However, on the hand, it cuts across the savanna regions within the riverine forests. African golden cat also be seen in the montane forests and alpine moorland in East Africa.

African golden cats are surviving in all western-Uganda national parks apart from Semuliki National Park. African golden cat is recently reported in Kibale Forest National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Kibale Forest National Park can be visited at any time of year, the ideal time to go is in the dry season, which runs from June through February (but travelers can visit anytime throughout these months).
