The vaccination was imposed by the Uganda government for protection against yellow fever since Aedes aegypti could be the principal mosquito vector in its territory. Click here to view our recommended gorilla tour 

Because Uganda is in the Yellow Fever endemic zone, the Ugandan government decided to protect its citizens and non-citizens with a vaccination recommended for children aged 9 months and older. 

If there is a risk of yellow fever at your destination, whether vaccination is required for entry or not, just be ready to show a yellow fever certificate of vaccination or a waiver that states the medical reasons why you were not vaccinated. Although the validity of the yellow fever certificate becomes active 10 days after vaccination.

A Uganda vaccination waiver can be issued by your medical practitioner if the yellow fever vaccine is contraindicated for medical reasons. Be warned that problems may arise when crossing borders, and the vaccination waiver may not be honored or accepted.

Uganda yellow fever exemptions allow travelers who are 60 years of age and older and those who are allergic to egg proteins that may develop rashes on their skin to apply for clarifications of an exemption letter through the Uganda immigration online application process.

A yellow fever vaccination is required by law for any traveler entering Uganda. It works similarly to a tourist visa in that you need it to enter immigration at Entebbe airport. Since the illness was prevalent in the past, this is merely a practical way to prevent it from spreading outside of their boundaries.

When in doubt, it's a good idea to get the most recent information from the CDC or Uganda's embassy in your country. 

Your travel physician will offer you a small yellow booklet with a date and stamp when you have the vaccination. This booklet serves as the documentation you must bring with you when you enter the nation. 

The best time to go to Uganda is along the two dry seasons which ranges between December and February, and again from June to August, when conditions are good for trekking mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys as well as wildlife spotting in national parks.
